How to uninstall Mac App Store apps

Remove apps you got from the Mac App Store with Launchpad or Finder. Learn how to download them again later, and which apps cannot be removed.

To uninstall an app from the Mac App Store, you can use Launchpad or Finder. Launchpad shows an X on App Store apps, so it is the quickest method. Either way, you can download the app again later from the App Store, for free, if you bought it.

Quick steps

  1. Quit the app.
  2. Open Launchpad, then press and hold the app until it wiggles.
  3. Click the X, then confirm.

If you do not see an X, use Finder instead.

  1. Open Launchpad from the Dock.
  2. Press and hold the app’s icon until the icons wiggle.
